Y u no return the love and care?

Today I went with my mom to 1Utama and the scene that greeted us upon our arrival is kind of heart wrenching. We saw this woman around her thirties with her mom. I think I am stretching the meaning of this word "with" rather loosely at that too.

The mom was in her fifties or sixties if I'm not mistaken, and she was trailing behind the woman by almost 5 to 7 meters away. In a shopping complex, 5 meters away is an appropriate distance for people who are unrelated to each other. I know that she is the mom's daughter because we were on our way to the shopping complex area from the car park. There were nobody else.

The heart wrenching moment is when we saw how the mom was slowly shambling towards the direction of her daughter but her daughter paid almost no heed to the mom. It isn't the mom's fault that she was shambling so slowly. From what I observed, the mom was shambling so slowly because she had aged and her knees are giving her lots of pain should she bend them. Thus she had to walk with her legs straight. This made it really dangerous for the mom to use the escalator without supervision. If she could not bring her other foot to the escalator platform in time when she was descending, she could probably fall face down towards the escalator. We all know that accidents around the escalator region are very unforgiving especially for elders and the children.

By the time we had reached the main complex area, the daughter was already nowhere in sight. This brings me to question, for all the love and care that our parents, especially our mom has showered upon us when we're small and frail, why can't we return the love and care back to them now that we've grown and capable of loving? Why couldn't she walk beside her mom, or at least take the elevator? At least it's a much safer option to travel? Must we first lose it only we will begin to appreciate it? Perhaps the city life and technology advancement had made us reduced our people to people's connection.

I really have no answer to it.
